TV Shows and Movies

City of God

In this movie, a story is told about a city in which all the homeless and poor of Rio Di Janeiro are forced to reside and it becomes barbaric.  Gangs start up between the two richest powers in the community, and eventually they begin a civil war. The turning point of the movie, one of the causes of the civil war, is when one gang leader is out searching for the other and ends up killing an innocent man’s brother on the way.  That man then decides who to side with and seeks revenge.  This clip shows the dangers of murder and revenge’s vicious cycle.

Degrassi

Degrassi: The Next Generation is a Canadian teen drama television series set in the Degrassi universe that was created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1980. Degrassi: The Next Generation is the fourth fictional series in the Degrassi franchise, and follows The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, and Degrassi High. Like its predecessors, Degrassi: The Next Generation follows a group of students at Degrassi Community School who face challenges common to teen life. We see almost every issue teens today face such as drinking, drug abuse, STD, rape, cutting, suicide attempts, school shootings, sexting, sex, guns, fighting, gambling, bipolar disorders, cancer, stealing, stabbing, abuses, eating disorders, peer pressure, sororities, teen pregnancy, affairs, illegal relationships, etc. We can see the pain and emotional/physical situations these teens come in contact with.

Stepmom

Anna and Ben, the two children of Jackie and Luke, have to cope with the fact that their parents divorced and that there is a new woman in their father's life: Isabel, a successful photographer. She does her best to treat the kids in a way that makes them still feel at home when being with their dad, but also loves her work and does not plan to give it up. But Jackie, a full-time mother, regards Isabel's efforts as offensively insufficient. She can't understand that work can be important to her as well as the kids. The conflict between them is deepened by the sudden diagnose of cancer, which might may be deadly for Jackie. They all have to learn a little in order to grow together. This is a very sad movie and we see how the mother and her children have to cope with her cancer and still be a strong family, even though at the end she does pass away.

Classic Disney Movies and Broken Families

There is a debate if disney is trying to tear families apart. Think of a Disney movie and tell me if there families relationships and if they have no parent or come from a bad home. Disney has been making films for almost a century, and has created some of the most memorable characters that have touched the lives of generation after generation of parents and children. Disney films have had a somewhat disturbing trend or theme that has echoed throughout America’s youth for nearly 70 years. Why have so many single parents appeared over the last 20 years though? Why has it become ok to abandon a woman and leave her to take care of your child? Why has it become acceptable for people to divorce instead of spending time to work on their marriages instead of other things?Rejects http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/opinion-disney-family.php#ixzz0oAPmwp7I
